We are Pronaturaleza, a national private non-profit foundation created in 1984. Since then, we have been working in the preservation of Peru’s natural heritage, the maintenance of biological diversity and the sustainable use of natural resources. Furthermore, we promote environmental education and provide technical advice in the design and implementation of participative environmental monitoring within extractive activities.
Since our early years, we have supported the work in favor of nature and its preservation, being recognized for achieving the protection of significant natural areas which were abandoned. However, some years later, we expanded our activity promoting the importance of the sustainable use of natural resources, through the development and the execution of important projects which have allowed the preservation and leverage of different resources such as aguaje, arahuana, vegetal ivory, coffee, taricaya, cocoa, carob and chestnut, and endangered species as paiche.
At the beginning of the 90s, we promoted an initiative to cultivate the awareness of environment preservation in the buffer zones of Protected Natural Areas (PNA) implementing an important program of ecology, production and education named Sueño 2 (Dream 2) in rural schools around PNA; through that program, we have been developing an environmental culture in the scholar population of 4 rural schools of Peru.
For more than 14 years, we have been an important hinge in the relationships between the extractive companies, the State and the communities, providing technical support through participative environmental monitoring programs in order to identify any situation which would endanger the environment or natural resources where those activities are developed.
Since 1984, more than 100 entities have supported Pronaturaleza’s work, we have invested over US$ 70 million dollars in more than 800 projects executed nationwide, and we have achieved the preservation of more than 20 protected natural areas in our country.
